Getting to Oxford and to Ilios Publishing
Oxford is 50 miles to the west of London, and is well served by
road and rail networks.
By train
Oxford railway station is located on the western edge of the city
centre, about 30 minutes walk from St Clements which is to the east
of the centre. There are routes to London Paddington and Bristol,
served by Thames Trains and Virgin Trains. Services to/from London
Paddington run twice an hour during the day, with journeys taking
around 70 minutes.
A frequent bus service (number 5) runs from opposite the station
and stops on Cowley Road (get off at the first stop). Circus Street
is the first street on the right after the bus stop.
By bus
Fast and frequent coach services link Oxford to London and the
main airports. Stagecoach Oxford run the 24-hour Oxford Tube service,
with coaches run every 10-15 minutes at peak times. London stops
include Victoria, Marble Arch, Notting Hill Gate and Shepherd's
Bush. Coming from London, the Oxford Tube stops in St Clements:
walk down to The Plain roundabout (towards the city centre), turn
left at The Plain, and then left again up Cowley Road. Circus Street
is the first street on the right as you walk up Cowley Road (c.100m
from the roundabout).
National Express services also connect Oxford to major UK towns
and cities.
By car
Oxford is connected to London, the M25 and the Midlands by the
M40 motorway. Junctions 8 and 9 link directly to the city. The Oxford
ring road provides direct access to the ports of Southampton, Portsmouth
and Bristol via the A34.
Approaching the city from the east, follow the signs to the city
centre: approximately one mile from the ring road, you descend Headington
Hill and pass through a set of traffic lights. You then enter St
Clements Street; continue down St Clements for 100m and you will
see a sign to a pay-and-display car park to the right, just before
you reach The Plain roundabout (parking is limited in Circus Street).
Once parked, walk down to The Plain roundabout (towards the city
centre), turn left at The Plain, and then left again up Cowley Road.
Circus Street is the first street on the right as you walk up Cowley
Road (c.100m from the roundabout).
